Purpose of literature

If you ask me about the purpose of Literature, I will say one thing. Viswanatha says something else. Chalam would say something entirely different. But I think if all three of us say something that we think is comprehensive, there will be something common. So the purpose of Literature can be both subjective and objective. The objective aspect of the opinion is perhaps the most subjective. The aspect that impacts us at a deep subjective level would be common for all. I may look at Literature as a medium to propagate a worldview. I would suppose that it is its objective aspect. But what I would remember of it after I forget the worldview that I gleaned from it would be something that moves me. This is the mysterious and inter-subjective aspect of Literature and only this aspect answers the question of the purpose of Literature to the satisfaction of many.
