Sub: Alternative Land for farmers of
Golconda landless due to Golf Court – Request – reg.
This
is to bring to your kind notice that 52 acres of land was acquired from farmers
in the vicinities of the Golconda Fort for the construction of Golf Club by the
Hyderabad Golf Association in association with Telangana Tourism Development
Corporation.
Though
the Golf Club has been functioning actively, the farmers who lost their land
for its creation have not been compensated so far. The farmers have been losing
patience over the extraordinary delay in this process. They had to stage a dharna recently to bring
focus to this neglected. As a tragic aside to this dharna, one of the farmers,
Mr Ilyas Khan, attempted suicide, reflecting the deep frustration of all the
affected farmers. Since the suicide attempt was public, he could be rushed to
the hospital in time and saved. We are afraid that other farmers might resort
to such extreme acts in situations where such rescue may not be possible.
We
urge you to save the lives and livelihoods of the affected farmers of Golconda
by taking immediate action by way of compensation for their lost lands.
Since
the land taken from the farmers is urban land, we urge you to provide them
alternative land in the Hyderabad District itself.
